According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded before 7 a.m. to the complex near Miami Gardens Drive and Interstate 95 and found that the vehicles had been broken into and that one was stolen.
Surveillance video shows three men walking outside the building and walking into the parking lot. One man takes cover and kneels down to avoid being seen by a passerby.
Residents said the men were after one thing: the airbags. Onniel Omelis said he just moved in on Friday and had his windows shattered and an airbag stolen.
Motor industry publications report that airbag thefts have remained a widespread crime nationwide for years.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is investigating. There is no information on the subjects, whom deputies said were masked.
