Nearly seven years after a father was murdered in North Lauderdale, investigators have arrested the man who they say pulled the trigger.

Wyslert Fraise was shot and killed Dec. 17, 2019. His family says this is a day they have waited on for years. NBC6 talked with two of Fraise’s sisters Thursday. The word they used was relief.
“Just to know he’s in custody, to know he’s not out freely,” Lidny Fraise said. “By the grace of the most high God, he was captured.”
Detectives say Matthew Castro shot and killed Fraise while he was sitting in a car. They say Castro also shot the passenger, but they survived. According to court documents, investigators arrested Castro in Texas Sunday, and on Thursday, he was in a Broward County jail.
In a statement Thursday, Castro’s attorney, David J. Sobel, Esq told NBC6, “Mr. Castro maintains his innocence. The evidence described in the warrant is deeply contested, includes materially inconsistent identifications, and contains no physical evidence linking him to the shooting. We look forward to presenting those issues to the Court and will continue addressing the case through the judicial process.”
“How could you just claim you’re not guilty knowing you did it, and there was no cause for you to do it,” Fraise said.
Fraise was one of six children. He was a father to two girls. His sisters say so many people loved him.

“Would give his shirt off his back, that will help others, pay a bill if they were not able to do that,” Tasha Fraise said. “Justice is going to start being processed.”
Fraise’s sisters say their brother’s murder is like a wound that will never close, but they won’t stop fighting for justice.
“Now to know that he’s here, we got a chance to fight and to hopefully know that this is where he’s going to stay, that will give us some type of closure not fully because at the end of the day my brother is gone,” Lidny Fraise said. “That’s not going to bring him back.”
“I want to know from him, why did you kill my brother?” Tasha Fraise said. “We’re asking the city of North Lauderdale to help us get justice for our brother. If you were loyal to him, be loyal to the case.”
Castro is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He does not have a bond to get out of jail.
