Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) are starting a new partnership this year which will use artificial intelligence to help keep kids safe while they ride buses to and from school.

BCPS recently announced a collaboration with BusPatrol, a company that aims to increase safety on the road by outfitting buses with cameras that are powered by AI.
According to BCPS, for this upcoming school year, 1,300 school buses will contain what they call “infraction detection systems,” AI-powered cameras that will detect vehicles that fail to properly stop near school buses.
The videos are sent to BCPS for review. If local police determine that a driver violated the law by not stopping, then they will send a Notice of Violation to the person’s address.

BCPS wrote on their website that the initiative is “designed to reduce reckless driving around school buses and create safer roads for everyone in our community.”
They hope to increase awareness and encourage responsible driving behavior when in proximity to a school bus.
