The incident happened Monday night in the 6300 block of Stirling Road.
Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said deputies responded to a Wawa gas station to arrest a man with an active warrant for fleeing and eluding.
The suspect, who was armed with a gun, ran away from law enforcement and ran to the McDonald’s across the street, where deputies tackled him in the parking lot and demanded that he drop the weapon, Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said.
The suspect then attempted to point his gun at law enforcement, which was when BSO deputies and a Plantation Police officer shot him, Tony said.
The suspect died from his injuries, Tony said. His identity hasn’t been released.

A witness was recording the encounter with his phone when the shooting suddenly unfolded.
“[They] tell him to get on the ground, to put his hands up, put his hands in the air, let me see your hands. I guess the guy didn’t reply, next thing I know I hear 30 shots coming from the guns, I drop my phone and run,” Gregory Jackson said.
Authorities were still at the scene on Tuesday gathering evidence. The incident remains under investigation.
