Rashaun Jones was charged with introduction/possession of a controlled substance, Miami-Dade Jail records showed.
According to authorities, on March 27, 2024, a detective arrived at the Metro West Detention Center after receiving reports of contraband that was found in the jail.
An arrest report said the detective met with a Miami-Dade Corrections officer, who said that a half sheet of paper and about 17 individual torn sheets with suspected K-2 were found with Jones.
The corrections officer said that the half sheet of paper was found in Jones’ shirt sleeve, and the torn pieces of paper were found in his waste band, the report said.
Two years after Jones was found with those sheets of paper, the results of the substance were downloaded on June 23 and revealed that he had ADB-BUTINACA, which is a controlled substance.
Jones has been in jail since 2021, when he was arrested years later for the 2006 murder of Pata.

During his trial back in March, a judge declared a mistrial in the case after jurors were deadlocked.
Jones’ retrial was set for May 18, but it was delayed after his attorneys accused the lead detective in the case of breaking a court order by using an anonymous Instagram account to post about the accused killer’s trial.
The retrial is set for Sept. 14.
Pata, who was found in a pool of blood near a parking lot outside his apartment, was 22 years old at the time and widely regarded as a rising football star with professional aspirations.
Despite the shocking nature of the crime, no arrest was made until 15 years later, in 2021. Prosecutors alleged Jones, a former Hurricanes teammate, killed Pata out of jealousy over his success and popularity.
Jones has always and continues to claim he is innocent of the murder.
His attorneys told NBC6 that they’ve just learned about the new incident and are working on gathering new information.
