A man accused of breaking into an apartment in Wynwood while armed with a knife was arrested on Monday, authorities said.

Jose Ramirez, 24, was charged with armed burglary with assault or battery and attempted burglary with assault or battery.
During his court appearance on Tuesday, Ramirez was denied bond.
According to authorities, officers arrived at the apartment after receiving reports that the residents inside were able to detain a suspect.
An arrest report said officers separated the victims and Ramirez, and they then spoke to the victims.
One of the victims, the report said, told officer that when they were lying in bed, they saw Ramirez opening the bedroom door and coming inside the room armed with a knife. The victim then yelled for his roommate’s help and started to record Ramirez with their phone.
Ramirez then dropped the knife and jumped into the victim’s bed in an attempt to get their phone, the report said. The second victim was in the bathroom when he heard yelling and came into the room, and the two were able to restrain Ramirez.

During their investigation, officers reviewed video recorded from the victim’s phone, which showed Ramirez coming into the room, jumping into the bed and then being restrained by the victims, the report said.
In the recording, the report said, Ramirez said that he had keys to the apartment that were given to him by the landlord. Keys and a large knife were found in the apartment.
The victims told detectives that they were six days behind their rent payments and that their landlord had previously entered the apartment in an attempt to collect, the report said. Once instance happened while one of the victims was sleeping.
The landlord is currently under investigation and is listed as a co-defendant, the report said.
Ramirez was taken to the Miami Police Department and spoke with detectives.
It was determined that although Ramirez was given keys by the landlord, he unlawfully entered the apartment and assaulted the tenants inside, the report said.

Ramirez was then arrested.
