Officials are expected to discuss security plans including the implementation of a Human Trafficking Task Force that has already led to two arrests.

The sheriff’s office will be joined by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, the Doral Police Department and other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies ahead of an event projected to bring thousands of visitors to South Florida.

On Wednesday, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier held a news conference in Miami  to discuss his office’s efforts during the soccer tournament.

“We anticipate the World Cup will be the largest human trafficking location in world history, just the nature of the international presence, the money, the coastline, the entertainment, a lot of people from other countries where laws are different and they’re accustomed to some sick behaviors that might be legal or more permissive there,” he said.

According to the attorney general, more than 1,600 human traffickers, child predators and exploitation-related offenders have been arrested since February 2025. Officials said human trafficking arrests and convictions have increased by more than 30% during that time.
