Miami-Dade officials hosted a news conference on Wednesday to address the “far-reaching impacts of the expiration of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals on Miami-Dade County’s workforce, businesses, and families.”

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Commissioner Marleine Bastien were joined by leaders from the business, labor, healthcare, and community sectors to discuss “the significant economic and human consequences of this policy change and underscore the importance of protecting the workers and families who have helped strengthen our community.”
“The end of TPS will strip immigration protections from an estimated 350,000 Haitian nationals across the country, including tens of thousands of Miami-Dade County residents,” a news release reads. “Many of them have been living, working and paying taxes in this community for years.”

The news conference was hosted at Father Gerard Jean Juste Community Center at Oak Grove Park.
