Two men are behind bars after a traffic stop turned into a wild pursuit in Port St. Lucie, according to police.

On July 24, officers with the Port St. Lucie Police Department said they attempted to pull over a white SUV after observing multiple traffic violations being committed on the road.
Police said they flashed their lights at a white Acura swerving on Southwest Becker Road, but instead of pulling over, the driver, 42-year-old Joseph Harris, sped up. Authorities said he was going 80 mph on a 45-mph street with his passenger Bryan Baker present.
Officers reported seeing the vehicle weaving in and out of ongoing traffic before Harris and Baker ultimately abandoned the SUV in a residential driveway on the 900 block of Southwest Idol Avenue.
The two suspects made their escape on foot, and law enforcement brought out their K-9 units and drone team to track the men down, according to police.

Before both men could be taken into custody, one of them climbed onto a resident’s roof hoping to escape capture, authorities said.
Video footage showed officers safely retrieving him from the roof and detaining him on the ground.
Joseph Harris has been charged with fleeing and eluding law enforcement, burglary of an occupied dwelling, resisting an officer without violence, and loitering/prowling. Bryan Baker has been charged with resisting an officer without violence and loitering/prowling.
