Brenda Jacqueline Gayle Archer, 57, and Troy Sidney Lawrence, 36, were arrested Tuesday on grand theft and scheme to defraud charges, arrest reports said.
According to the reports, police began investigating earlier this month after the assistant manager of the store at 13550 West Sunrise Boulevard said an internal investigation revealed multiple missing televisions and other high-end merchandise.
Using surveillance video, transaction records and receipts, Sam’s Club identified a “recurring scheme in which the same male suspect repeatedly exited the store with unpaid merchandise while purchasing only a minimal amount of low-cost items,” the reports said.
It was discovered Archer, who was assigned to verify customer receipts at the store’s exit, routinely allowed the man to leave without verifying the items in his shopping cart, the reports said.

In one example from June 8, surveillance video and transaction records showed the man bought a TV wall mount but exited the store with two Samsung televisions, the reports said.
Sam’s Club investigators examined six months of surveillance footage and discovered 46 separate incidents of the man exiting the store with unpaid merchandise while Archer was working at the exit, police said.
The company calculated verified losses of over $58,000 in merchandise from the scheme.
