According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, 11 people were arrested during “Operation Parking Denied.”
Deputies said that the investigation started after an audit by the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office identified several disabled parking permit applications that were suspected of having been gotten fraudulently.
During their investigation, detectives uncovered a scheme where brokers allegedly helped with the fraud by giving applicants disability certification forms with forged physician signatures.
After getting those forms, they were then submitted to get disabled parking placards.

The permits were sold for $200 each.
Detectives said that in those forms, there were names of several physicians who never treated or certified the individuals who were listed.
In several instances, there were forms certified by a physician who died in 2025.
“We are following this case wherever the evidence takes us,” said Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz. “This is not simply about a piece of plastic hanging from the rearview mirror. These placards exist because the most vulnerable in our community require them in their daily lives.”
