The crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday in the northbound lanes of I-75 a little south of Pines Boulevard.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said the victim was on the outside paved shoulder of the highway trying to change the rear left tire of his car when he was struck by a Honda CRV.

The 69-year-old driver of the Honda was trying to switch lanes from the outside merge lane to the outside lane but “was unable to do it in a timely or safe manner” which caused him to drive in between the outside shoulder and outside lane, FHP officials said.
