According to Miami Beach officials, riders younger than 16 must wear helmets when operating a bicycle, e-bike, scooter and related micromobility devices.
The new rules also say that anybody operating a micromobility device must use white and red lights from sunset to sunrise. Users also cannot carry more people at a time than the number a device is designed for.
Functioning brakes will also need to be equipped on those devices.
The ordinance goes into effect on July 22, 2027, and violations carry a $129 fine.

“Safety is the foundation of a strong and healthy community, and these new measures reflect our commitment to protecting everyone who moves through Miami Beach,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner, in a statement. “This ordinance gives our police officers and park rangers clearer authority, and it reinforces our responsibility to keep our streets, sidewalks, and Beachwalk safe for residents and visitors.”
Several other cities have added regulations for e-bike and scooter use, including Sunny Isles Beach and Miami-Dade County.
