A father accused of abusing his 5-year-old son in Homestead was arrested on Tuesday, alongside his girlfriend, authorities said.

Maurice Dukes, 35, and Sarah Gonzalez, 22, were charged with aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm.
According to authorities, officers arrived at Homestead Hospital, where a child who was allegedly abused was taken.
An arrest report said a physician told officers that the 5-year-old was brought to the emergency department with various injuries.

The injuries the child suffered, the report said, include the following:
- Linear lopped markings
- abrasions and facial trauma with both eyes swollen and bruised
During their investigation, officers learned that Dukes, the child’s father, and Gonzalez inflicted the injuries, the report said.
Dukes, the report said, was then found in Florida City, detained, and agreed to be interviewed by officers.

Gonzalez was found at Krome Avenue and was arrested.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified.
