Miami Police identified the deceased as Melvin Díaz Cepeda.

According to police, officers on Monday responded at around 5 a.m. to a property at 4606 Northwest 5th Avenue after receiving a report about a person who had allegedly entered without authorization.

Kenya Fallat, a spokesperson for Miami Police, said that “officers, along with Fire Rescue personnel, arrived at the scene, and firefighters pronounced the man, in his mid-40s, dead.”

Police did not provide further details about the circumstances of the shooting.

“Detectives are going door to door to see if there are any surveillance cameras that captured what happened, and we’re asking the public that if they know anything, to call us, but apparently, what it looks like is that he may have been an intruder,” Fallat said.

However, friends of Díaz Cepeda are asking authorities to continue their investigation because, according to them, the person who fired and the young man who was shot were DJs who knew each other.

Images captured by NBC6 that day showed a large police presence and rescue crews in the area. Video also showed a long-haired man in handcuffs as he was placed into a patrol car.

Authorities said one person was being questioned in connection with the incident, although it was not clear whether it was the same man seen in handcuffs in the images.

The home remained cordoned off as detectives collected evidence and tried to piece together the sequence of events.

A neighbor said she initially thought it was an accident and that she feels bad about the situation.

The investigation continues.
