A man is facing charges in a shooting at a Margate shopping plaza earlier this month that left two people hospitalized, police said.

Joan Ferrer Azuaje, 19, was arrested May 15 in Hillsborough County on charges including attempted murder, child abuse, felony criminal mischief and discharging a firearm in public, an arrest warrant said.

The shooting happened May 9 at a shopping plaza in the 300 block of S. State Road 7.

According to Margate Police, Azuaje and three other people had been involved in a confrontation that led to the gunfire.

Two of the other people were hospitalized as a result, the warrant said.

A 10-year-old child was present during the incident but wasn’t injured.

Azuaje was extradited to Broward, and is facing an immigration hold, records showed.
