A man accused of severely injuring another driver during a road rage confrontation in a Hialeah Walmart parking lot is now behind bars.

According to Hialeah Police, the incident happened in May after the suspect, identified as Christian Salgado, and the victim got into a verbal argument while driving through the parking lot.
Investigators say the two initially went their separate ways, but police say Salgado returned, blocked the victim’s vehicle and confronted him while the victim’s pregnant girlfriend and a young child were still inside the car.
Authorities say the confrontation quickly turned violent.
According to the arrest report, Salgado grabbed the victim, lifted him into the air and slammed him onto the pavement.
Video from the scene shows the aftermath of the victim lying on the ground, appearing disoriented and struggling to get back on his feet. Moments later, a man can be heard screaming, “I defended myself.”
Police identified that man as Salgado and as the aggressor.
The victim suffered catastrophic injuries, according to investigators, including a skull fracture, a brain bleed and multiple spinal fractures.

Months after the attack, police say the victim continues to suffer lasting effects, including memory loss and difficulty standing for more than 20 minutes.
During Salgado’s bond hearing, the judge set bond at $15,000. When the defense requested a lower bond, the judge rejected the request, citing the seriousness of the victim’s injuries.
“He should actually be locked up in jail with no bond based on this victim’s injury,” the judge said during the hearing. “This victim may not be able to walk again.”
Salgado is charged with aggravated battery.
Hialeah Police say the case is another reminder of how quickly road rage incidents can escalate and are urging drivers to avoid confrontations and walk away from disputes whenever possible.
