Nearly 100 drones have been seized in South Florida during the temporary flight restrictions put in place for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to FBI Miami.

The 95 drones were seized by FBI Miami and other agencies as they enforce FAA no fly zones around Hard Rock Stadium, the agency said Sunday.

The FAA deems it a security risk and wants to ensure the safety and security of both fans and players at these events.

The FBI also expressed it as a concern for accidents and to protect critical infrastructures.

The FAA is holding these restrictions in or near Hard Rock Stadium, the FIFA Fan Festival, and other World Cup events.

The Fan Fest is in Bayfront Park and remains active until July 5, when the restriction in that location ends.

The flight restrictions at Hard Rock Stadium will hold until July 18, following the play-off for third place.

The consequences

If caught flying a drone in the restricted areas violators could receive fines as high as $100,000 or even up to a year in prison.

If caught the FBI is also authorized to confiscate the drones.

The authorities are actively monitoring the air space and will take action when flights are detected.
