It became a federal holiday in 2021, meaning that some stores and other businesses might be closed in observance.
Here’s what to know.
Schools and government offices
Schools, post offices, courts, libraries and city halls will be closed on Friday, but they will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22.
Banks
Branches of all major banks will be closed for Juneteenth, since it is a federal holiday.
Grocery stores, pharmacies, malls and major retailers
Most major grocery stores, malls and other retailers will be open this Friday, including:
- Publix
- Presidente Supermarkets
- Walmart
- Costco
- Walgreens
- CVS
- Target
- BJ’s
- Bravo Supermarkets
- Sam’s Club
- Sedano’s
- Trader Joe’s
However, each location may have adjusted hours. Call the store nearest you to confirm.

Beaches and parks
If you have the day off, you’re in luck, because beaches and parks within Miami-Dade and Broward counties will be open.
Transit
In Miami-Dade, normally-scheduled bus, Metrorail and Metromover service will be provided.
Broward County transit will also operate on a regular weekday schedule, along with Tri-Rail trains.
Waste management and recycling
Miami-Dade County waste management will operate on regular work hours. Broward County officials say that garbage will be collected as regularly scheduled, but the landfill will be closed.
