Cory Coddington, 46, is facing several charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, carjacking without a firearm or weapon, resisting an officer with violence, battery on an officer, second-degree theft, possession of more than grams of MDMA, and leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies received reports of a vehicle that crashed into a tree near the 500 block of East Hillsboro Boulevard.
After crashing their vehicle, the driver then carjacked a woman’s vehicle and left the scene.
NBC6 spoke with Shyann Figaro, who said she saw the crash and got her vehicle stolen.
“The guy crashed next to me as I was driving, and it was really bad, so I stopped to make sure he was okay, and when I stopped, I got out of my car, and he ended up taking off with it,” she said.
Video captured the extensive amount of damage to the front end of the SUV.
Deputies said the suspect jumped into Figaro’s car and drove less than five minutes away to a nearby Chick-fil-A.

Witnesses told NBC6 that he jumped the curb, abandoned the stolen car, a silver sedan, and came out covered in blood.
“A guy asked him, ‘Are you okay?’ and he said, ‘Does it look like I’m okay?’” Laurence Lebel said.
Witnesses also said the suspect stole a French fry from a child.
“He came and stole a chip from a child and then wanted a milkshake,” Lebel said.
Chick-fil-A employees said they gave the boy a new set of fries on the house.
Meanwhile, the suspect jumped next door at a gas station, where deputies said he became combative.
“He was very scary because he was full of blood,” Lebel said. “At first, I was stressed, so we moved right there, but then, after, it was funny. We’re not from here. We don’t see this every day.”
Authorities said they were eventually able to arrest him, and he was taken to a local hospital.
At the crash site, the damage was impossible to miss. Debris was scattered across the sidewalk, pieces of the building were torn away, and a palm tree was uprooted where, investigators said, the SUV barreled through.
