In Miami Gardens, residents like Shirley Stanley say the winds were unlike anything they’ve seen in years.
“It sounded like a train,” she said. “…I was in my bed, and I jumped out to the window to see what it was.”
That screeching sound captured on a Ring camera as powerful winds ripped through her neighborhood, taking down branches, fences and one woman’s carport.

“It was like a black thing, a big black cloud that just passed right through, and I saw the shed from the lady’s house over there all over the car and all over the place,” she said.
The heavy rain and strong gusts sent debris flying and left residents shaken.
“I’m not a scared person, but this time I got a little scared,” Stanley said.
Farther north in Fort Lauderdale, neighbors say an apparent lightning strike sparked a transformer fire. And while it’s not confirmed that lightning was the cause, neighbors captured it all on camera as the fireball lit up the area. Video shows bright flashes and flames near Northeast 17th Avenue.
The storms also caused travel disruptions. Earlier Monday, both Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport issued temporary ground stops due to thunderstorms. Those ground stops have since been lifted.
