The violent incident happened back on May 30 at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where Yanira Equileor was working her shift.
The surveillance video shows a different nurse being chased by the patient, who hit another worker before turning around and hitting Equileor.
“It is graphic. It’s frightening,” Equileor’s attorney, Michael Pizzi, said while talking about the video on Wednesday. “It’s a graphic and horrific video of a career Jackson nurse being brutally, brutally and repeatedly beaten and assaulted and knocked almost unconscious in a vicious assault where she received no security and no protection.”
Another angle showed Equileor on the floor as hospital staff restrain the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Rubin Wenyou.
Other nurses are then seen picking up Equileor.
Aside from mental scars, Pizzi said Equileor had multiple bruises throughout her body.
“She’s been traumatized by this event,” Pizzi said. “She has injuries to her head, her neck, her spine, her back.”

Equileor now plans to file a $5 million lawsuit against the hospital claiming negligent supervision and security.
Jackson Health didn’t comment directly on the investigation but did release a statement.
“We have four dedicated Jackson public safety specialists assigned to the Jackson Memorial emergency room 24 hours a day, seven days a week – including the date of this incident. In addition, we have two off-duty Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies on campus at all times,” the statement reads, in part. “Within seconds, the first Jackson Public Safety Officer arrived at the scene, with additional public safety officers responding soon after. The employees involved were immediately offered support and care following the incident.”
Pizzi said he also had to sue the hospital and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office to get the video released.
The sheriff’s office said they don’t comment on open litigation.
Pizzi also filed a whistleblower lawsuit to protect the nurse from retaliation.
The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office said the suspect is being held in jail until he can be sent to a psychiatric facility.
