Latonya Starks, who investigators say presented herself online as a medical doctor, has been arrested and is facing several charges, including practicing as a health care professional without a license.
According to Starks’ arrest report, the sisters found her through the Instagram account for Lori Dior Beauty Spa. Police say Starks injected both women in their hips and buttocks with an unknown substance.
The sisters later began experiencing serious complications.
One of the women went to urgent care, where an MRI reportedly showed abscesses that were too deep to fully drain. She ultimately needed a surgeon to help drain pus, blood and other fluids, according to police.
Investigators say the injuries caused significant pain and left the sisters with permanent scars and bumps.

One of the victims also suffered financially, police said, after she was terminated from her job because she had to miss work as a result of her injuries.
The sisters have also been left with thousands of dollars in medical expenses, according to investigators.
Police say the 33-year-old Starks is not a licensed medical doctor.
Investigators also discovered that she is a convicted felon in Georgia and had allegedly been operating a medical spa in Miami.
In court, a judge warned Starks that if she is arrested again for providing medical treatments, she could be held in jail until trial.
