A pedestrian was struck and killed and a driver was taken to the hospital after a crash in Pompano Beach on Tuesday, deputies said.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies received reports of a crash in the 1000 block of South Federal Highway just before 1 p.m.
At the scene, deputies found a pedestrian, who was pronounced dead.
Deputies said that their investigation showed that the driver struck the pedestrian on a sidewalk. The pedestrian’s identity was not released.

The driver involved in the crash was taken to the hospital with injuries.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed a white vehicle with heavy damage on the sidewalk with debris scattered across the roadway.
As deputies continue to investigate, the southbound lanes of South Federal Highway between Southeast Ninth Street and 12th Street have been shut down.

Drivers are urged to take alternate routes.
It’s unclear if the driver will face any charges.
