After a nearly yearlong investigation into the death of an infant in St. Lucie County, three people, including the baby’s mother, were arrested on Thursday, deputies said.

Nicole Maxwell, 27, Robert Maxwell, 61, and Vikki Koon, 38, were charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and aggravated child abuse.

According to the St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office, deputies on Aug. 20, 2025, arrived at the Lawnwood Regional Medical Center after a 3-month-old child was brought to the emergency room by his grandparents.

Deputies said that medical  personnel told them that the child was pronounced dead and that the child had injuries that were consistent with possible neglect.

As deputies investigated the incident, a medical examiner classified the child’s death as a homicide and said the child’s cause of death was due to dehydration and malnutrition.

Nicole, who is the child’s mother, Robert, the child’s grandmother, and Koon, Robert’s girlfriend, were then arrested.

Their bonds were set at $1.5 million each.
