Julio Salermo, 33, was charged with robbery/carjacking.

According to authorities, on Sept. 20, Salermo was walking through the valet parking lot at the casino when he went up to the victim, who was sitting in a Mercedes-Benz.

An arrest report said Salermo kicked the Benz’s passenger-side bumper, walked over to the driver’s side window, reached inside the car and started hitting the victim.

Trying to diffuse the situation, the victim opened the door, but Salermo pulled him out and punched him in the face, the report said. Salermo then pushed away the victim, got into the car and drove away.

After taking the car, Salermo hit the median near the entrance of the valet parking lot, drove over it and left, the report said.

During his drive, the report said, Salermo crashed the stolen Benz near South Dixie Highway and Southwest 246th Street, got out of the car, and fled on foot.

Miccosukee Police then searched for Salermo by canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance video, but couldn’t find him, the report said.

In October, the report said, officers received a phone call from Salermo’s attorney, who said he would surrender.
