Payton Williams died Wednesday and her brother, Brent, was seriously injured and remains in the hospital.
“You hit somebody. You hit my kid, you didn’t stop,” said the children’s mother, Shaniq. “You left them in the streets like they were animals. They didn’t deserve that. Come forward. Turn yourself in.”
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office officials said a driver was going north on Northwest 7th Avenue approaching Northwest 117th Street when they made a left turn and hit the children before fleeing.
Officials now say detectives have found the vehicle involved. It’s currently in the sheriff’s custody but no arrest has been made.
“It’s not right. These are babies, these kids,” said Katrina Kearce, the children’s aunt. “This is not right. Turn yourself in. Have a heart. Turn yourself in.”

Her mother says Brent is awake and stable but she still hasn’t told him that his little sister is gone.
“It’s gonna be the trauma all over again from the first time it happened because they were very close,” Shaniq said. “They did everything together. Like, she was not just my baby. She was everybody’s baby.”
The children’s three older siblings were at the vigil, lighting candles and praying for Brent while trying to grieve Payton.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the crash to call Crime Stoppers.
