As of around 6 a.m. Monday, there were already 39 flight cancellations at MIA, along with 15 delays, records showed.

The numbers were expected to go up throughout the day, as the airport handles what’s typically a busy day of travel for the Labor Day holiday.

Authorities said the plane had just arrived from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it crashed off the runway, striking multiple vehicles and erupting in flames.

Five people were killed and another five were injured, including three with critical injuries.

After the crash, all flights into and out of MIA were stopped, and hours later, two of the airports four runways had been reopened.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled or delayed on Sunday as a result.

Two of the four runways remained closed Monday morning.

“Passengers with flights scheduled today should check directly with their airline for flight status updates before heading to the airport,” an airport spokesperson said Monday.
