Charles Bernard Adams, 42, and Alexandra Adams, 34, were arrested Wednesday by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on two counts each of child neglect without great bodily harm, arrest reports said.

According to arrest reports, on May 21, the 2-year-old was found unresponsive and was taken by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue to a hospital for medical attention.

Charles Adams later told investigators he put the girl in her bed while he and his wife took a nap, and said he was woken up after about two to three hours by the girl’s shallow breathing and called 911, the reports said.

A Department of Children and Families investigator was contacted by the pediatric branch at Broward General Hospital who said the 2-year-old had taken a urine screening and tested positive for cocaine, the reports said.

Charles and Alexandra Adams also tested positive for multiple drugs including amphetamines, benzodiazepine, and Kratom, the reports said.

The couple’s other daughter, a 4-year-old, was removed from their custody amid the investigation, the reports said.

Both parents appeared before a judge on Thursday who set their bonds at $30,000 each and ordered them to submit to random drug testing and told them they must undergo substance abuse evaluation.

They were also ordered to have no contact with their children until they see a dependency court judge.
