Two Miami residents were arrested after a traffic stop in Key Largo led deputies to drugs and a DUI investigation, authorities said.

Monroe County officials released details about the incident involving Nicholas Sean Pichardo, 25, and Claudia Yero, 29, who were traveling on U.S. 1 on May 22.
Deputies say they stopped a Ram pickup truck pulling a trailer around 9:03 p.m. near Mile Marker 100 because the trailer lights were not working.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Pichardo’s driver’s license had expired, and he “appeared intoxicated.”
Authorities say a subsequent search uncovered a THC vape pen and substances that field-tested positive for cocaine, MDMA, and fentanyl.

Both suspects were transported to jail, deputies said.
Pichardo was charged with:
- DUI/unlawful blood alcohol level (misdemeanor)
- DUI/unlawful blood alcohol level with property damage or injury (misdemeanor)
- Possession of marijuana (misdemeanor)
- Possession of cocaine (felony)
- Smuggling contraband (felony)
- Four counts of drug possession (felony)
While Yero was charged with:
- Possession of cocaine (felony)
- Two counts of drug possession (felony)
