Miami-Dade County offices, libraries and the Pet Adoption and Protection Center will be closed in observance of both holidays. Officials wrote that “the federal holiday recognizes the spirit of exploration and embraces new horizons,” while Indigenous People’s Day honors “the significant social, political and economic contributions to our community made by the Miccosukee people and other residents of Indigenous descent.”

The majority of banks will be closed for the day as Oct. 12 is a Federal Reserve holiday. TD Bank and Chase Bank branches will be open, but online transactions won’t be available, according to its website.
