Deputies had responded to the area of Southwest 142nd Avenue and Southwest 287th Street shortly after 6:15 p.m. for a call of a missing child, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office officials said.

The deputies began canvassing the area to find the child and during the search, a deputy spotted him in a nearby canal.

The deputy jumped in the water and removed the child, who was given life-saving measures until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived and airlifted him to HCA Kendall Hospital in critical condition, officials said.
