Khalil Smith, 29, is facing several charges, including carjacking and premediated attempted murder.
During his court appearance on Tuesday, a judge denied Smith’s bond.
According to Pembroke Pines Police, officers arrived at BMW of Pembroke Pines, where a victim said he was carjacked.
An arrest report said that Smith arrived at the dealership and asked about a BMW, expressing that he was interested in buying it.
Smith was told he could go inside the car, but needed to give his ID, and when Smith gave it and sat in the car, he asked for the key, the report said. When Smith got the key, he punched the dealer in the abdomen and told the dealer to get back.
The dealer, the report said, got out of the car, and Smith drove out of the showroom.
Shortly after, officers received reports of a shooting, and a caller said a masked man approached her back patio and fired several shots at the glass doors, the report said.
During their investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance video that showed Smith putting on a black ski mask and a camouflage jacket, the report said. He was then heading toward the home and jumped over a fence.

Smith, the report said, was then seen in the backyard walking up to the master bedroom’s glass French doors and trying to open the door.
When he realized he couldn’t open the doors, he raised what appeared to be his gun toward the doors, the report said. While the shooting wasn’t captured, Smith then walked back to the front of the house and went back into the BMW.
Smith was then seen in the area by officers and was detained, the report said. Officers found a tan backpack, a .22 caliber handgun, which had an empty magazine, and a black ski mask in the car.
When detectives spoke with the victim of the home, it was revealed that she was Smith’s mother, and she told them that she kicked him out of the home because he was disrespectful and didn’t help around the home, the report said.
The mother, the report said, told officers that Smith was kicked out of the Navy in 2025 and had anger issues.
While searching the scene at Smith’s mother’s house, detectives found 10 spent .22 caliber shell casings that matched the gun Smith had, the report said.
Detectives determined that Smith strong-armed and carjacked the BMW from the dealership, drove to his mother’s house and went to the back where she would be, tried to open the doors and fired four shots towards the bed when he realized the doors were locked.
