Representatives for Only in Dade said the account was not hacked.
In an exclusive interview with NBC6, they said the page was suspended by Meta for reasons that remain unclear. They also revealed they were targeted by scammers who falsely claimed to have control of the account and demanded money to restore it, but said those extortion attempts were unrelated to the page’s disappearance.
“What happened is that on Friday, at 2 in the morning or closer to 3 in the morning, we received an email from Meta that the account has been suspended,” said Shanut Anaut, Co-Founder, Only in Dade. “It says deactivated.”
“Right now, we’re just working hand in hand with Meta to try to get to the bottom of why the page was taken down,” said Liza Santana, spokesperson for Only in Dade.
Those efforts appear to have paid off. The Instagram page was restored Tuesday afternoon.

Only in Dade said Meta told them the suspension was caused by an internal AI error.
NBC6 also reached out to Meta for an explanation, but did not receive a response.
Only in Dade launched in 2013 as a local meme page and has since grown into one of South Florida’s most influential digital media brands, known for viral content and local news.
