Byrd, 40, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Miami-Dade Jail records showed.
During his court appearance on Tuesday, a judge set his bond at $5,000.
According to Miami Police, officers arrived at Abbot Avenue/Indian Creek Drive after receiving reports of a man who was on board the bus armed with a knife and yelling “who wants to die?”
An arrest report said officers spoke with the bus driver, who told them that two passengers were involved in an altercation that escalated when one of them pulled out what appeared to be a knife and made threats.
The bus driver told deputies that the person was still near the bus stop, and an officer located and identified Byrd, the report said.

Byrd, the report said, was then detained, and during a pat-down, the officer found a silver multi-tool in his right pocket.
The victim was then found, and he told officers that when he got on the bus, he saw Bryd screaming at other passengers, and he tried to have a conversation in an attempt to calm him down, the report said.
During the conversation, the victim told Byrd to be quiet, which led to him taking out the multi-tool from his pocket, opening it to a tool that looked like a blade, and walking up to the victim and asking him if he wanted to die, the report said.
Byrd, the report said, was then arrested.
Police said the incident was captured on the Miami-Dade Transit surveillance.
After playing at LSU, Byrd was drafted by the San Diego Chargers, now the Los Angeles Chargers, in 2009.
