Deputies said they were called just before midnight on Monday to a home at Southwest 127th Avenue and Southwest 68th Terrace for a “burglary in progress.”
According to an arrest report, the victim told authorities that she had fallen asleep in her room with the door closed, but was woken up “by an unknown male figure standing at the now open doorway” and noticed “that she was being watched.”
That suspect was later identified as 36-year-old Kevin Perez.
The woman screamed “hello” twice, before the man turned around and walked away from the door, an arrest report for Perez details.
The victim then walked toward the living room, and seeing that a sliding glass door was open, locked herself in her bedroom and called 911, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities said while she was on the phone, she heard a loud noise from the kitchen as the man took off.

As deputies investigated, they found that the suspect had gained entry to the home “by prying open the laundry rooms sliding glass door” with an unknown tool, causing damage of approximately $500.
On Thursday, DNA from the scene came back as a match for Perez, who was described as a “known offender.” Later that day, he was arrested on an unrelated case.
Perez provided “verbal and written statements implicating himself in the burglary,” the sheriff’s office said.
He is charged with voyeurism, burglary of an occupied dwelling, aggravated stalked and criminal mischief.
