Miami was the sixth city to roll out Waymo rides to the public. Each ride can be booked inside the Waymo app and costs around the same as other ride shares.

According to Waymo, the company is expanding its service by another 50 square miles, bringing the total footprint to 150 square miles.

Before the expansion, riders could book a trip in Miami Beach and Bal Harbor, and the company said the robotaxis will also begin to introduce highway travel to Miami service, including on Interstate 95, the Dolphin Expressway (State Road 836), and the Palmetto Expressway (State Road 826).

As part of the 50 square mile expansion, riders can book a Waymo to North Miami Beach, Biscayne Park, Miami Shores, Little River and Miami Gardens.

Waymo said it will also begin to expand to the Hard Rock Stadium and near the Aventura Mall.

Recently, the company filed a voluntary recall of its software in nearly 4,000 robotaxis due to an incident on April 20 in San Antonio, Texas, involving flooded lanes.

According to NBC News, the company said one of their vehicles “detected potentially untraversable flood water and proceeded at a reduced speed.

No injuries were reported, but 3,800 vehicles were impacted.

Waymo said it is working to “implement additional safeguards.”

NBC News reports that the robotaxis in San Antonio were out of commission, but the vehicles were running in 10 other cities.

Waymo told NBC News that have resumed full autonomous service, but riders cannot book a ride in San Antonio as they continue their software update.

NBC6 has reached out to Waymo to see if any vehicles in Miami have been affected.
