The Swimming Lesson Voucher Program in Florida has expanded eligibility, allowing for more children to benefit from free swim lessons.

The new law, which takes effect July 1, expands the age range of eligible children from four years and younger to between ages one and seven.

The original law created in 2024, put in place to prevent child drownings, targets children in low income homes to help them learn a vital skill before any accidents could occur.

The eligibility requirements are that the family income should be no more than 200% of the federal poverty level and they must be Florida residents.

The lessons includes eight sessions that normally span across a two week period. They also are prioritizing children with autism and active military families.

Regardless, all families eligible are encouraged to apply when the application period reopens later this year.
