Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials said 911 callers reported a house on fire along the 1800 block of Southwest 23rd Avenue just before 5:20 a.m., but once firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the fire was coming from a tiki hut behind a vacant rental property.

The fire extended to the occupied house next door before being extinguished.

Four adults from the occupied home safely evacuated with their three dogs with no injuries.

Though the cause of the fire remains unknown, a fire investigator will determine what started the blaze. It is unclear at this time whether the fire began in the tiki hut or in the neighboring home.

The American Red Cross has been called to help with the adults affected by the fire.
