A driver is in custody after he allegedly fled a traffic stop before he was caught on foot on Thursday night, authorities said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said they briefly stopped a silver SUV on State Road 826 (Palmetto Expressway) near Northwest 36th Street at around 9:11 p.m.

The SUV then fled with troopers in pursuit, FHP said. Authorities tried to stop the vehicle with a PIT maneuver in the area of Southwest 1st Street and 44th Avenue, but were unsuccessful and lost sight of the SUV.

While canvassing the area, Miami police officers found the “driver fleeing on foot and apprehended him,” according to FHP.

The SUV was later found at a nearby residential complex.

The driver’s identity was not immediately available, nor were the charges he might face.
