Water in North Lauderdale has tested positive for E. coli, prompting the city to issue a boil water advisory for residents.

The city says that one of 14 routine samples came back positive for E. coli bacteria on June 5. Repeat samples were collected the next day and were “reported absent for fecal coliform and E. coli.” But the lab said the samples had not been evaluated with the “approved analytical method,” so more sampling was done on June 8.

On June 11, some samples came back positive for total coliform bacteria and at least one for E. coli.

The city is working to determine the source of the contamination.

Residents are encouraged to boil water for three minutes before drinking it until further notice. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.
