The victims of a robbery attempt in Miami Gardens that ended with the suspect fatally shot are now facing charges after $5 million worth of drugs and $1.4 million in cash were found in their home, police said.

Anthony Enrique Gordon, 50, is facing charges related to trafficking in cocaine, fentanyl, meth and cannabis, as well as dealing in stolen property, possession of drugs without a prescription and possession of a firearm, weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

His girlfriend, 58-year-old Danette Larae Young, is also facing drug trafficking and other charges, police said.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Northwest 36th Avenue and 174th Street.

Miami Gardens Police said the suspect tried to rob a house and the victim had opened his door to the suspect before they got into a physical altercation.

The resident’s girlfriend ran to a neighbor’s house for help and at some point, the suspect fired a gun, police said.

The neighbor responded and shot the suspect in the head. He was taken to Aventura Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities haven’t released the identity of the robbery suspect.

Police said Wednesday that after further investigation, detectives determined that the motive for the robbery was drug-related.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the home that led to the seizure of about $1.4 million in cash and drugs with an estimated street value of $5 million, police said.

Gordon and Young were booked into jail.
