Andres Bahamon, 25, is facing a second-degree murder charge in the killing of his father, 43-year-old Andres Bahamon-Prada, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Deputies began investigating the father’s disappearance on May 16, after a family member said he hadn’t been seen since May 7.

Evidence was found that suggested foul play may be involved in his disappearance, and a homicide investigation was launched.

On May 18, detectives obtained a search warrant for a property in Dunnellon where they found an area of freshly dug dirt and uncovered human remains in a home’s backyard.

The remains were later confirmed to be Bahamon-Prada, the sheriff’s office said.

Bahamon was arrested on May 19 on a charge of tampering with evidence in the missing person investigation and after dried blood was found in the home, Bahamon became the primary suspect in the homicide, authorities said.

After he initially refused to speak with detectives about his father’s disappearance, Bahamon was later interviewed at the jail where he admitted to the murder, authorities said.

Bahamon told detectives that before the murder, he “asked God a million times” to allow him to kill his father, adding that he was doing God’s work because the victim was “trying to link up with satanic people” and trying to kill him, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office said Bahamon provided extensive details about how he killed his father and then buried him in the backyard of the residence to avoid being arrested.
