Four years after a teen was accidentally shot and killed in Pembroke Pines, his stepmother charged in his death was in court Wednesday to learn her fate.

A sentencing hearing was held for 28-year-old Francy Marcos, who was charged in the June 11, 2022 death of 15-year-old Achilles Lopez.
Marcos had pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm last week.
On Wednesday, she was sentenced to 10 years of probation on the manslaughter charge and five years of probation on the aggravated assault charge.
She’s also not allowed to possession firearms, weapons or ammunition.
Marcos cried and hugged her attorney as the judge handed down the sentence, while family members in the audience wept.

“This is a tough case,” Judge Susan Alspector said.
The shooting happened at a home inside the Coconut Reef community at 180th Avenue and Southwest 12th Street.
Authorities said Marcos was handling a firearm inside of the home when it was unintentionally discharged, fatally shooting the boy.
The teen’s sister Tyrani Lopez said he loved soccer and played on a team in Miramar.
