Following overnight storms that moved across South Florida, a massive tree came crashing down on a car in Hollywood, while another tree forced a partial road closure.

It was an active and destructive night of weather as a storm slammed South Florida with wind, rain and lightning.

NBC6 on Saturday spoke with a homeowner who saw the impact of the storm.

“It was a lot of wind, the things in here, the chairs and everything just fell down,” Adriana Ortiz said.

She thought that was a lot for her Hollywood neighborhood, but Ortiz was in for a rude awakening

“We never thought that the tree would come out,” she said. “Was pretty much very hard storm last night. Quick but hard.”

A massive tree toppled her daughter’s car, crushing it underneath.

It was parked outside on Friday night along North 24th Avenue near Grant Street

“Thank God everyone is fine and my daughter wasn’t in the car, that was my first concern, and, you know, materials can be replaced,” Ortiz said.

By around 2 a.m., city crews were already clearing limbs, with the tree impeding neighborhood traffic

“The city came to start cutting the trees, the branches and everything because it was completely blocking the street,” Ortiz said. “Thank God no one else was out too.”

And from Hollywood to North Lauderdale, there was a similar scene, but this time there wasn’t a car, just another large tree blocking part of the roadway

The tree came down along Boulevard of the Champions near Southwest 64th Avenue, with the Broward Sheriff’s Office responding.

Deputies closed off the area while crews accessed and worked to remove it

While it’s not clear exactly what caused these massive trees to come down, clean-up in both spots came after strong storms moved through

NBC6 has reached out to authorities for more information on whether lightning or wind speeds caused either of the trees to come down.
