A man who was arrested over the weekend after leading officers on a chase in Miami-Dade County and then crashing in Hollywood was identified, police said.<\/p>\n

Detric McClary, 24, is facing several charges, including trespassing of an unoccupied structure, fleeing and eluding at a high speed, and resisting an officer without violence.<\/p>\n

According to Pinecrest Police, at around 2 a.m. on Sunday, officers conducting a crime prevention patrol spotted a \u201csuspicious gray BMW parked on the wrong side of the roadway\u201d with its lights off on Southwest 66th Avenue<\/p>\n

Officers said that they saw several people who were dressed in black clothing and wearing ski masks running from a nearby yard and getting into the BMW.<\/p>\n

When officers tried to contact the group, \u201cthe driver intentionally reversed the BMW into the marked police vehicle,\u201d before fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed, police said.<\/p>\n

After the vehicle fled, a pursuit was initiated by officers northbound on State Road 826, but they eventually lost sight of the vehicle due to its speed.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the BMW later crashed in Broward County, where Hollywood Police took McClary into custody, while the remaining occupants fled on foot.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the \u201cpreliminary investigation revealed the subjects entered an unlocked vehicle parked at the residence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although the home was occupied at the time, residents were asleep and unaware of what was happening outside, authorities said.<\/p>\n

McClary is expected to face more charges in Miami-Dade. <\/p>\n

An investigation to find the other suspects involved remains active. <\/p>\n

Editors note: An earlier version of this story said McClary was accused of stealing the BMW. According to police, “Investigators have identified the registered owner of the BMW. At this time, the owner is not cooperating with law enforcement. The vehicle was not reported stolen or rented.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
