Antonio Brown made a virtual appearance before a Miami-Dade judge on Friday as his attorneys are seeking a deposition from the alleged victim in the former NFL star’s shooting case.<\/p>\n

Brown is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge in the May 16, 2025 shooting following a celebrity boxing match in Miami.<\/p>\n

According to an arrest warrant, Brown is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer after the boxing match and firing two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, with whom he had earlier been involved in a fistfight. Nantambu told investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck.<\/p>\n

Brown’s attorney said that the affidavit is mistaken and that Brown actually used his personal firearm, and that the shots were not aimed at anyone.<\/p>\n

Brown, 37, has pleaded not guilty and filed a motion to dismiss the charges under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law.<\/p>\n

The “Stand Your Ground” motion filed by Brown’s attorney alleges that Nantambu also attacked Brown backstage during 2023’s Rolling Loud music festival, and was jailed in Dubai in 2022 for stealing Brown’s jewelry. The motion also claimed Nantambu had publicly issued threats at Brown, including stating “your days are numbered.”<\/p>\n

Brown has said on social media that he was defending himself from an attack and that others were trying to steal jewelry from him.<\/p>\n

Nantambu also appeared virtually for Friday’s hearing, where he was told he must comply with a deposition by Brown’s attorneys.<\/p>\n

“No delay, and you must appear,” Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez said. “If you disregard the subpoena you could ultimately be held in contempt of court and that’s not so much fun because if you’re held in contempt of court then there could be consequences to that and that includes even being in custody, now, we don’t need to go all that way.”<\/p>\n

The next court date in the case is scheduled for May 27. A prosecutor said Brown\u00a0could face up to 30 years in prison\u00a0if convicted.<\/p>\n

Brown spent 12 years in the NFL and was an All-Pro wide receiver who last played in 2021 for Tampa Bay, including a Super Bowl championship with quarterback Tom Brady. He spent much of his career with Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

Nantambu was arrested last year after police said he disrupted Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show by waving a Sudanese flag bearing the message “Sudan and Free Gaza.”<\/p>\n

he was found guilty earlier this month of resisting an officer in the Super Bowl case.<\/p>\n
