A home health aide is accused of stealing from the elderly woman with dementia who she was taking care of in Miami Lakes, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Janet Hernandez, 44, was arrested Thursday on charges of grand theft and theft from elderly, an arrest report said.<\/p>\n

According to an arrest report, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office began their investigation last month after the alleged theft was reported by the elderly woman’s son.<\/p>\n

The son said Hernandez was the assigned home health aide for his mother, who is in the early stages of dementia.<\/p>\n

He told investigators he lives in Tallahassee and comes to visit every two to three months and began to notice that clothing, jewelry, furniture and decorations were missing, the report said.<\/p>\n

At first he thought it was his sister or mother moving items around but the sister told him she hadn’t moved or borrowed anything.<\/p>\n

The son said he installed a Ring camera in January above the garage door that captured Hernandez carrying multiple full garbage bags to her vehicle, the report said.<\/p>\n

She was also seen on video taking a new generator, pottery, plates and cleaning items from the home to her car, the report said.<\/p>\n

In addition, the son said he found a video on Facebook of Hernandez wearing what appeared to be a cross pendant that was taken from his mother, the report said.<\/p>\n

Detectives met with Hernandez who spontaneously said she “took all the items from the property since she needed them for personal use,” the report said.<\/p>\n

Hernandez was arrested and booked into jail. She was expected to appear in bond court on Friday.<\/p>\n
