Folarin Balogun will play in the round of 16 after all.<\/p>\n

The American star will have his one-game red-card ban suspended, Dan Sheldon\u00a0and\u00a0Adam Crafton of The Athletic reported and U.S. Soccer later confirmed Sunday.<\/p>\n

“We\u00a0accept the\u00a0decision\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Disciplinary\u00a0Committee and\u00a0are\u00a0pleased\u00a0that\u00a0Folarin\u00a0Balogun is\u00a0eligible to\u00a0compete tomorrow,” the federation said in a statement.\u00a0“Our full attention is focused on the Round of 16 match against Belgium in Seattle,\u202fand we look forward to the\u00a0continued\u00a0support of our\u00a0amazing\u00a0fans.”<\/p>\n

Balogun was sent off in the round of 32 against Bosnia and Herzegovina for a foul on defender Tarik Muharemovic, which is typically an automatic one-game suspension under Article 10.5 of FIFA\u2019s rules for the tournament.<\/p>\n

Now, despite the fact that the team could not appeal a red card or suspension, Balogun will be available for the Monday round of 16 game against Belgium.<\/p>\n

Balogun was not given a red card initially for the incident, but was sent off upon a review with the referee saying he had committed a \u201cserious foul.\u201d On the play, he inadvertently landed on the back of Muharemovic\u2019s leg and stepped down on his ankle.<\/p>\n

Article 27 of FIFA\u2019s disciplinary code states that \u201cthe judicial body may decide to fully or partially suspend the implementation of a disciplinary measure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Balogun leads the U.S. with three goals in the World Cup, including one in the round of 32 before his red card. He’s the only player on the team with more than one goal so far in the tournament.<\/p>\n
