Also returning is top-ranked women&#8217;s eating champion Miki Sudo, who holds 11 titles, including four straight, and the women&#8217;s record of 51 hot dogs.<\/p>\n<p>On what will be a milestone Fourth of July, with the United States celebrating its 250th anniversary, Chestnut is relishing (pun intended) the opportunity to break his own Nathan&#8217;s record of 76 hot dogs set in the 2021 contest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m putting together a plan for a new record, and I feel like things are going to work out,\u201d Chestnut told NBC Local. \u201dI\u2019m gonna be pushing hard. It will be held on Saturday, July 4 in Coney Island, New York &#8212; a short walk from Nathan&#8217;s flagship restaurant.<\/p>\n<h2>What time is the Nathan&#8217;s Hot Dog Eating Contest?<\/h2>\n<p>Coverage of the women&#8217;s contest begins at 10:45 a.m. ET and the men&#8217;s coverage starts at 12 p.m. ET.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How to watch the Nathan&#8217;s Hot Dog Eating Contest<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The women&#8217;s contest will be shown on the ESPN app. Coverage of the men&#8217;s contest will begin on ESPN2 at 12 p.m. ET and be simulcast on ABC beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET. While on stage at the Nathan\u2019s Hot Dog Eating Contest, which has taken place annually since 1916, the hot dog and bun can be consumed separately, with contestants dunking the bun in water to make it easier to swallow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Partially consumed hot dogs are tallied in eighths. Hot dogs that are in the mouth when time runs out do count as long as they are subsequently fully consumed. Taking a drink is permitted as needed during the contest.<\/p>\n<p>Competitors can be penalized for &#8220;messy eating&#8221; and even disqualified for &#8220;reversal of fortune,&#8221; which in the competitive-eating world is a fancy way of saying &#8220;vomiting.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>What does the Nathan&#8217;s Hot Dog Eating Contest winner get?<\/h2>\n<p>Winners are awarded $10,000 and the Mustard Belt, a WWE-like bedazzled championship belt with the Nathan&#8217;s logo on it.<\/p>\n<h2>Has Joey Chestnut ever lost?<\/h2>\n<p>Chestnut has won 17 of the 20 Nathan&#8217;s Hot Dog Eating Contests he has competed in. He finished third in his 2005 debut with 32 hot dogs and second in 2006 with 52 hot dogs. He then won eight consecutive contests before getting upset in 2015 by Matt Stonie, who ate 62 hot dogs to Chestnut&#8217;s 60.<\/p>\n<p>Chestnut won another eight straight contests between 2016 and 2023 before being banned from the 2024 competition. He returned last year and won with a total of 70.5 hot dogs.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Who are the favorites in the 2026 Nathan&#8217;s Hot Dog Eating Contest?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Chestnut and Sudo are the heavily favored top dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Chestnut&#8217;s top opponent will be the man who won the contest during his absence in 2024 and finished as last year&#8217;s runner-up. Patrick Bertoletti, of Chicago, returns looking to upset Chestnut and reclaim the throne, having devoured 58 hot dogs during his title year and 46.5 last year. He broke his previous record of 75 set in 2020.
